I have the mid 2011 iMac with the i5 2.5 processor. Im looking to get more memory in it to update it a little. It currently has the standard 4gb 2 slots being used. I see the new iMac's are coming with 8gb, what do people think i should upgrade to? Also would i buy 2x2gb or 1 x 4gb etc. Its just being used for light tasks really but keen to keep it upto date being an older model now.

I have the same imac and upgraded with 2 * 8GB from crucial
If you are doing light tasks on your mac, you may upgrade with 2 X 2GB module. Total 8GB will be sufficient for your simple tasks.
Oh do ya, thats good. Yeah i was thinking the same. its only £15 more to get 12 gb overall not sure it would be needed though.
yeah more memory does not equal more speed unless one is running out
my usage is high mem though which is why I went 16GB
I agree, however iMacs are sensitive to RAM. NEVER put RAM that you buy in a store in an iMac, chances are you will have trouble at some point. Most experienced users on these forums only recommend buying RAM from either Crucial (buy direct) or OWC (www.macsales.com). Considering your location, I would recommend Crucial. Both vendors supply high quality RAM and sell it for a reasonable amount.
